Wood Carving of Paper Jack - wood carving
Paper Jack was a popular tramp who lived in Croydon. He had been a surveyor - Alfred Ellis Preece, but had left his wife and home and gone back to nature. In 1935 he was killed when crossing Benson Road, Waddon. When his body was stripped in the mortuary, he was dressed only in paper wrappings. This carving was made by Frederick Nibble, who used to talk to Paper Jack on Duppas Hill.
